General Technician

We require, as soon as possible, a General Technician to assist our strong Science department in school.  The role will include working as part of the team to ensure a safe working environment by providing and maintaining resources and offering assistance and support to the Science Technicians and Science teachers. Key duties include assisting Science Technicians with the preparation of basic practicals, cleaning and maintaining equipment, monitoring and replenishing supplies and maintaining and organising the science preparation rooms.  Please see the job description for full details of this important role in school.

Job Details

GENERAL TECHNICIAN                                                                             ________________________________________________________________________

 RESPONSIBLE TO:               Senior Science Technicians

 RESPONSIBLE FOR:            Working as part of the Science Department Team, to provide the resources, safe working environment, assistance and support to the teaching staff.

DUTIES:

  • Assist the Senior Science Technicians with preparation of practicals
  • Unloading/loading dishwasher
  • Handwashing specialist equipment
  • Distribute clean glassware and maintain supplies of general equipment in labs. Notify technicians of low stocks
  • Monitor stock of revision guides, process sales and update electronic stock list
  • Routine cleaning/sanitizing of specs and goggles
  • Routine laundering of lab coats
  • Distribute paper towels and monitor soap supplies to labs and main prep room and liaise with site team when required
  • Monitor and replenish paper folder in labs
  • Monitor and replenish scissors, pencils and glue in labs
  • Empty broken glass bins in labs and main prep room
  • Monitor and replenish spill kits in labs
  • Monitor fire safety sand
  • Water and maintain laboratory plants
  • Maintain prep room stationery and printing supplies, liaising with Resources and Site Team when required
  • Source and purchase weekly supply of perishable goods for practicals
  • Photocopying when required
  • Replenish student chemical supplies as required
  • Reassembling used practical kits after use in lessons
  • Deliver and collect textbooks to labs
  • Clearing equipment of returned practicals as directed

 Undertake other duties from time to time as may reasonably be required, having regard to the purpose and grade of the post.

In all the above to have regard to the curriculum area and whole school policies.

  • To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development, and training opportunities in discussion with line manager
