The Sandon School

Independent Curriculum

The notion of our Sandon Independent Curriculum is to foster a love of learning and generate aspirations that go beyond the classroom. As well as increasing pupils' confidence, thoughtfulness and resilience, we encourage all our students to engage in our newly created independent curriculum to better equip themselves for life beyond school by deepening their knowledge and developing their love for learning.

The completion of tasks in this booklet are purely voluntary. Should your child have a natural interest in a certain subject area and wish to find out more, this booklet provides a targeted direction for them to do just this.

Included in this booklet are a collection of subject pages, which have been designed by the curriculum areas at The Sandon School. These include a variety of prompts and ideas to enable your child to explore their favourite subjects beyond the taught syllabus. These pages are by no means exhaustive lists but should offer your child a source of inspiration to explore their subjects and more.

The activities vary in their degree of stretch and challenge and take many forms including wider reading, watching online materials, downloading podcasts, attending university lectures/masterclasses, engaging with higher education super-curricular initiatives and visiting museums/places of academic interest.

As well as our own extensive extracurricular clubs and activities through the electives programme we would encourage your child to join a regional or national club or society related to their academic interests.

Completion of activities and tasks should be shared with their subject teacher. Staff will acknowledge their completion and award positive achievement points. Certificates will be awarded in achievement assemblies at the end of term.

We wish all our students the very best as they explore these opportunities and look forward to celebrating their curiosity, effort and success along the way.
